Some 51,000 Florida homeowners still eligible for HARP

Florida leads the nation in borrowers eligible to refinance through the federal Home Affordable Refinance Program, or HARP.

The Federal Housing Finance Agency said Wednesday that 51,100 homeowners in the state could take advantage of the program, which is designed to help underwater homeowners.

Homeowners who refinance through HARP could save up to $200 a month, the feds say. To be eligible, borrowers must have taken loans with Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac before early 2009. Borrowers must be current on their mortgages.
