Staples CEO to step down after Office Depot merger flopped


The fallout from the failure of the Staples-Office Depot merger continues. Ron Sargent, the longtime CEO of Staples, will step down in mid-June, the retailer said Tuesday.

Staples and Office Depot had hoped to join forces to fend off competition from and Wal-Mart, but the Federal Trade Commission blocked the merger, leaving the two companies with plunging stock prices and an uncertain future.
