United Country, United Realty still fighting over name

United Realty Group, a fast-growing brokerage with offices in Royal Palm Beach, Wellington and Boca Raton, and United Country Real Estate of Kansas City, Missouri, continue to battle over rights to the United name.

United Country filed a federal suit in January accusing Plantation-based United Realty of trademark infringement. A mediation session July 12 resulted in an impasse, according to court records.

United Country, which has offices in Stuart and Naples, said it has operated since 1925 and trademarked the United brand in 1978. Underscoring its ambitions, the head of United Country and United Real Estate appeared on the CBS show Undercover Boss in May.

United Realty, for its part, is a fast-growing company that has been adding agents with a 100 percent model. Agents keep their entire commission but pay the company a fee of $299 per transaction.
