Hit hard by store closings, Wellington center trades for discount

Circuit City, Linens N Things, Barnes & Noble — The Shoppes of Wellington Green boasted a roster of tenants that would have seemed stellar two decades ago. But in the post-Amazon world, two of those merchants are gone and the third is fading fast.

That might explain why the 130,000-square-foot center just sold for $19.4 million, a steep discount from the $33 million price recorded in 2011 when a lender took the property back in foreclosure.

The new owner is Welling Realty LLC of Katonah, New York, according to property records. The property at 10500 Forest Hill Boulevard is next door to the Mall at Wellington Green. After the demise of Circuit City and Linens N Things, the center leased space to electronics retailer hhgregg.
